Description

Lowell Collection - specimen # 1

THE HISTORY OF THE PIECE IS AS FOLLOWS:

"... I spoke to Jim Lowell up at Harvard last week and he made mention of a recent and unimaginable discovery. Apparently while collecting mollusks in an obscure little inlet town in T_____ New England, the good doctor came across what he believes to be over a dozen separate pieces of native gold, statuary, and other gold artifacts from the mysterious and ill-fated town of Innsmouth. Have you heard any news of this?

Jim would only give brief remarks when last we spoke on the phone. He even made allusions to the government's involvement (a perilous situation I have become all too familiar with), but he did make particular mention that one of the pieces was an ancient and tarnished idol of the fish god Dagon, used in rituals by the Esoteric Order of Dagon.

The other piece of note was a large piece of unrefined native Innsmouth Gold. Jim's description is beyond compare, he makes mention of twisting tendrils and strange deep sea barnacle growths atop the surface. If this were true, my god, it would be a revelation! Especially since Innsmouth gold is quite a rarity. None has shown up in quite some time besides those few pieces confiscated by the Government awhile back. The piece of native gold alone is worthy of years of study. Imagine such a relic! Innsmouth gold, unprocessed, unrefined, saved from the Marsh Refinery! Covered in a possible new undiscovered species of barnacle! Harvested straight from the undisturbed bowels of the Deep Ones realm! In my years of research I have only happened upon a single small piece of Innsmouth Gold used in a Reliquary by the artist Malcolm Hodge. Dr. Lowell's new collection, is truly a covetous acquisition and a rare and beautiful thing.

If you are aware of Dr. Lowell's collection and can provide any further information on the pieces mentioned, or any of the other 10 found, it would be greatly appreciated.

Keep your work safe and secure, and please keep in touch.

Sincerely,
